Subject update

The role of the skeletal system during physical activity

The GCSE PE specification focuses on the functions of the skeleton, training effects and potential health concerns related to the skeletal system. This update looks at the first of these topics: the role of the skeletal system during physical activity.

As with all aspects of GCSE PE theory, ‘practical’ ways to deliver the content are recommended. At first this might appear more difficult with this topic, but here are some ideas.

Additional extended writing questions for GCSE PE

For GCSE PE 2012 papers (and beyond), scaffolding will not be used. The essay questions will follow the same format as those shown in the Sample Assessment Material (rather than in the Additional Sample Assessment Material). We've produced additional essay questions, examples and mark schemes to support you with this.

I'm sure you're aware that the GCSE PE specification has been updated to Issue 3. Changes have been made to the initiatives section of the specification as a result of some of the initiatives becoming outdated.
