There are some key changes to the structure of GCSE qualifications that could affect your expectations about what results your students will get this year.
All units within a GCSE will be assessed at the full GCSE course standard. It does not matter which examination series the units are taken.
Why? Because a unit can be taken by any student in any available window to contribute to the overall GCSE. This means that the overall standard for the new GCSEs will be the same as it is now.
The links below will lead you to an overview of how your subject has changed from the old to the new specifications
You can find reference to Ofqual’s statement about the GCSE standard here: Ofqual statement on GCSE standard
40% of the subject must be completed at the point when the final GCSE grade is requested and certificated.
We’ve produced some exemplification of how this will affect your students here:

Raw marks are mapped to this common scale to make a full GCSE from the best possible marks for your student from any given exam series.
The links below will provide you with an example of how this will work in your subject.
Please note that the grade boundaries provided in these documents are for illustration purposes only, the actual grade boundaries for each exam series are located here.
After a candidate has been awarded their result, their uniform mark will be recorded in our system until you request their overall grade to be calculated and certificated (cash in).
You must remember to request this for your students to obtain their overall GCSE grade by entering the code for the cash in.
There are some special arrangements for those students sitting all the assessment this year and want to cash in. Please see the JCQ instructions here for further details: JCQ website. The cash in codes for your subject area can be found in our information manual here.
You will need to work very closely with your Examinations Officer to ensure that your candidates have been entered correctly, and certification has been requested.
