GCE A* Calculator

We know that you may get questions from candidates about how ‘close’ they were to achieving the A*.

This calculator is provided primarily for the use of teachers and exams officers to help candidates to understand how close they were to achieving the new A* grade at GCE. If you are a candidate using the calculator, please do so with caution and speak to your teacher or exams officer to ensure that you are interpreting the information in the right way and that you are entering the correct data. The A* is awarded if the candidate meets two requirements:

  • Grade ‘A’ for the overall Advanced GCE
  • 90% of the total available uniform marks for the A2 units

The GCE A* calculator will help you to determine how close your candidates were to achieving the A* in most of our GCE qualifications. You will not be able to use this for 9 or 12 unit Applied GCE qualifications, GCE Mathematics or GCE Chinese as these have a different structure. Please refer to our a-star pages for details on these qualifications

1. To use the calculator you will need to enter the uniform mark for each of the units that the candidate has achieved. Please ensure that you enter the correct mark under the relevant level, AS or A2 (remembering that some of these marks may be held in the ‘bank’ from previous series).
