The NVQ in Providing Security Services is aimed at individuals working as static and patrol guards, door supervisors, CCTV operators and reception and retail security guards, as well as anyone involved in events security. To achieve the NVQ, individuals are required to achieve all the five mandatory units, plus at least three of the optional units.

This NVQ has recently had its accreditation extended till 31 March 2011 and it will continue to be the competence component of the Providing Security Services Apprenticeship till April 2011 when it will be replaced by the BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Providing Security Services (QCF).
