International GCSE from 2009  | English Language A

These pages exist for reference only. The International GCSE from 2009 specification has been replaced by our updated International GCSE from 2011 specification and is no longer suitable for teaching.

Our International GCSE in English Language (A) aims to develop students' ability to read, understand and respond to material from a variety of sources orally and in writing, matching style to audience and purpose. It includes a wide range of reading and writing, and the possibility of both written and oral coursework. It is suitable for delivery in schools or colleges and is graded A* to G.  Read more

In response to teacher feedback, we have made some improvements to the International GCSE English Language A specification. Made in February 2011, these changes will affect June 2012 assessments onwards. Current centres should move over to teaching the 2011 specification from September 2011.

If you have any queries, please contact our English Subject Advisor by emailing TeachingEnglish@pearson.com.

Note to state schools: The International GCSE specifications on this page are for international and independent schools ONLY. You can see International GCSE for state schools specifications and sample assessment materials here.
