International Advanced Levels from 2013 | Chemistry
Edexcel International Advanced Level Chemistry

The Edexcel International Advanced Level in Chemistry is the new name for the international version of the Edexcel GCE A level in Chemistry. Available for international centres only, this qualification contains a written exam instead of coursework.

Please note: only the name of the qualification has changed. The content and assessment methodology are the same as the current international version of the Edexcel GCE A level in Chemistry specification.

Edexcel International Advanced Level qualifications are not available to centres in the UK, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. Additionally, British Armed Forces schools based overseas are not able to make entries for these qualifications.

The Edexcel International AS/Advanced Level Chemistry syllabus, regulated by Pearson, builds on the knowledge and skills developed from Edexcel International GCSE Chemistry, and any other GCSE programmes of study, encouraging creative thinking and problem-solving.

More about the International Advanced Level in Chemistry

expand When will the International Advanced Level in Chemistry specification be available?

There is no new specification for Chemistry. The existing GCE A Level Chemistry (International centres only) specification has been renamed International Advanced Level in Chemistry. The content and assessment methodology remain the same - only the name of the qualification has changed.

We will be creating one International Advanced Level in Chemistry specification to replace the two specification documents currently sitting in ‘Specification’ below. The content and assessment methodology are exactly the same, so please continue to use the current specifications below until they are replaced during summer 2013.
expand When can I start teaching the International Advanced Level in Chemistry?

If you are an international centre currently using the Edexcel GCE Chemistry specification (100% examination, no coursework), you can continue to teach in the normal way, as there is no change to the specification. The only change is that we have renamed the qualification International Advanced Level in Chemistry. The existing specifications are included below for you to use. We will be replacing these during summer 2013.

If you are an international centre currently using the Edexcel GCE Chemistry specification (with coursework), please be aware that there are no longer examinations in January for this qualification. All Edexcel GCE A levels now have examinations in June only because of a decision by the UK government and Ofqual to remove January examinations from all regulated A level qualifications.

For further information on the A level changes affecting centres in England and overseas, please visit Edexcel GCE Chemistry. Centres wishing to have a January examination window are welcome to start teaching the new International Advanced Level in Chemistry from September 2013, which has the first assessment in January 2014.
