BTEC Higher Nationals from 2010 | Equine Management

24 March 2011

Inclusion of Level 3 units in BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate (HNC) and BTEC Level 5 Higher National Diploma (HND) qualification structures

Importing credits at Level 3
The rules of combination for the Edexcel BTEC Level 4 HNC Diploma and Edexcel BTEC Level 5 HND Diploma refer to a maximum of 30 credits being allowed at Level 3.

Level 3 units can only be selected for a programme of study, up to a maximum of 30 credits, if they are listed in the mandatory or optional units within the qualification structure, where they have been included to provide a suitable grounding in some topic areas (for example, mathematical principles).

How does that affect the Meeting Local Needs or Locally Devised Unit process?
Units imported through Meeting Local Needs or Locally Devised Units can only be at Level 4 or Level 5, as specified in the rules of combination for the each qualification. No Level 3 units can therefore be imported into Higher National qualifications under the Meeting Local Needs or Locally Devised Unit process.
