Important amendment to the GCSE ICT unit 2 Controlled Assessment Brief

The May 2010 Controlled Assessment Brief (CAB) for unit 2, available from the GCSE ICT documents page of our website, has been updated. This is because we needed to make an amendment to one of the html pages of the CAB.

The amendment is on the page entitled 'Activity 3 – Discovery board 1 – overview', where a final sixth bullet point reading 'Speaker notes to explain and justify your recommendations' has been removed. This is not something that candidates need to do for activity 3, and it is important that when they come to do work on the brief they are not confused by this.

We are very sorry that this amendment is necessary and apologise for any inconvenience caused. The good news is that it is easy for you to fix.

What you need to do

If you have previously downloaded the CAB:

You should delete the version you have already downloaded and replace it with the version now available on the website. This will avoid any possibility that candidates become confused and start work on a task that they are not required to complete.

The updated version of the CAB went live early on Thursday 22 July. If you are not sure whether you downloaded the old or the correct, updated version, the easiest way to check is by looking at the ‘Activity 3 – Discovery board 1 - overview’ page and seeing if the extra bullet point is there.

If you have not yet downloaded the CAB:

Please download the version which is now on the website. Remember that once you’ve downloaded the CAB, you should save it on a secure network or on a restricted access drive.

Once again, we are very sorry for this inconvenience.
