Our response to Ofqual's report on GCSE English and English Language

Ofqual has published a report on the GCSE English and GCSE English Language summer 2012 examination series. The report makes recommendations about future examination series that may affect you and your candidates. Read the full Ofqual report here.

No GCSE English or English Language grades to be issued in January 2013

Ofqual has ruled that no unit or overall grades can be issued for GCSE English or English Language units in the January 2013 examination series. Because of this, we will release only raw mark results for each of the units. We will not issue grades, grade boundaries or uniform mark scores in January 2013.
This course of action has been imposed by Ofqual to prevent the issues that arose concerning grade boundary movements this summer.

You can withdraw candidates free of charge, and get a refund, until 27 November

We understand that this change will have implications for both you and your candidates, and we want to support you in preparing for the January 2013 and future examination series. That's why we'll be accepting candidate withdrawals free of charge, and giving you a refund,  until 27 November 2012.
Although we won't be issuing unit or overall grades in the January series, we will retain the cash-in entries to ensure that candidates are eligible for the overall grade in summer 2013 where they meet the requirements. This will also ensure that candidates meet the eligibility and terminal rules in January and June 2013.
