GCSE 2012 reforms: Impact on Geography B specification

The GCSE 2009 modular Geography B specification without SPaG is available to download below, and has a final assessment window of June 2012.

The GCSE 2009 modular Geography B specification including SPAG is now available to download, and has assessment windows of January 2013 and June 2013 only.

The GCSE 2012 linear Geography B specification including SPaG will also be available here shortly, for first teaching in September 2012 (for two-year courses) and first assessment in June 2014. The main changes are:

• Additional marks for spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPaG) from January 2013
• Linear specifications for two-year courses starting in September 2012
• Linear assessment structure: all exams taken at the end of the course
• Controlled assessment conducted at any time but submitted at the end of the course
• Units only available in the summer exam series.

We're currently awaiting accreditation from Ofqual for the GCSE 2012 linear specification for this subject. Once accredited, the specification will be available to download from the documents list below.

The bullet points above summarise the key areas of change from the modular specification, and are subject to Ofqual's accreditation of our revised GCSE specifications. Full details of the changes will be marked in the specification with sidebars.
