GCSE Science 2011 controlled assessment consultancy service

Our new consultancy service is designed to support you with controlled assessment for our new GCSEs in science. It’s a free online system that lets you practise marking exemplar student work and provides you with commentaries from a senior moderator. This helps build your confidence and understanding of how to apply the new assessment criteria before you mark your students’ work.

The consultancy service will be available from 19 September 2011 until 17 February 2012.

How does it work?

1. Nominate your Lead Assessor. This is the person with overall responsibility for the assessment of a paper or set of papers at your centre.

2. Ensure your Lead Assessor has an Edexcel Online password.
If your centre is new to Edexcel, please ask a member of your examinations staff or your centre administrator to contact our online support team on 0844 576 0024 to get an Edexcel Online password.

3. Ensure your Lead Assessor is registered for Online Support for Centre Assessors (OSCA).
If your centre is new to Edexcel, log on to Edexcel Online, select 'OSCA' from the menu and open a qualifications account.

4. Get your Lead Assessor to log on to Edexcel Online and register for the consultancy service by selecting OSCA from the menu.

5. Once registered, your Lead Assessor (or group of colleagues) can go online to access and mark exemplar work.
