Due to demand from learning providers to continue offering key skills as part of the Apprenticeship framework (until the new registration end date of 31 March 2011), we will not  be offering on-demand paper-based tests from September 2010 for functional skills as previously announced. However, centres can continue to offer key skills until 31 March 2011.

We will now be offering one-click registration for Apprenticeships incorporating key skills from 1 September 2010. The key skills component will then be replaced by functional skills in April 2011.

We are committed to providing you with the highest level of support in the transition to functional skills. We already have accredited specifications in functional skills for all subjects at all levels, so providers who wish to offer functional skills before April 2011, either on a trial or full basis, can do so from September 2010.   

From September 2010 until April 2011 we will offer four assessment opportunities for functional skills in English and mathematics, and three for ICT. Within each of these assessment opportunities our providers and learners will have the flexibility to sit the assessment at any time within the five-day window.
