Functional skills are qualifications across English, mathematics and ICT. They provide learners with the necessary levels of literacy, numeracy and information and communication technology skills needed to function in today’s society and at work.

They are stand-alone qualifications in their own right; however they are also a key part of the Foundation Learning suite of qualifications at Entry Level 1 and Level 1.
