The ifs and Edexcel

The ifs offers Financial Capability qualifications at levels 1, 2 and 3. They can be used as Additional Specialist Learning by any students studying for a 14–19 Diploma. In addition, the ifs School of Finance is working with Edexcel by contributing to the development of the financial content of the Principal Learning for the Business, Administration and Finance Diploma.

Through the Financial Capability courses, students can gain an understanding of finances and the influence that they have on everyday life. They will learn to manage their money and cope confidently and effectively with basic financial issues, including distinguishing between wants and needs, budgeting, opening and accessing accounts and understanding different methods of payment and their implications. This knowledge and understanding will be of interest and value to students irrespective of the line of learning of the Diploma they are following or their longer-term career aspirations.

The design of the ifs Financial Capability qualifications enables them to be taken within the Business, Administration and Finance Diploma, within the structure of other 14–19 Diplomas, or as stand-alone qualifications by non-Diploma students. The ifs School of Finance Financial Capability qualifications are equivalent to GCSEs at levels 1 and 2, and to AS and A levels at level 3, the latter carrying the full Ucas tariff.

Gavin Shreeve, Chief Executive of the ifs School of Finance, says, “We believe that personal financial learning is a vital part of any young person’s education, as do government and numerous other agencies. The aim of offering our qualifications alongside Edexcel’s 14–19 Diplomas is to enhance further the financial education of the nation’s youth.”

The ifs School of Finance will also work with Edexcel to help those preparing to teach the financial elements within the Principal Learning of the Business, Administration and Finance Diploma.

Collaborative Learning Manager - The Solution That Links Delivery Partners

Collaborative Learning Manager (CLM) is a new standard in smart learning management technology, from Perspective. The technology enables effective communication between all parties involved in the delivery of 14-19 Diplomas.

The delivery of Diploma qualifications involves a collaboration of schools, colleges, work-based learning providers and employers, all of whom need to access and monitor information on learner progress towards the various qualifications that constitute the Diploma.

CLM provides an online monitoring platform to do just this, enabling access to up-to-the-minute data on student attendance and progression.

The software monitors student progression throughout all stages of the qualification, enabling a free flow of information between all parties and providing instant access to information on performance and development.

CLM is an ideal management tool for Delivery Partnerships to monitor programme progression. Attendance statistics, learner statistics and management reports can be produced quickly and easily, and at-a-glance reports show attendance by pupil, course and school over specified time periods.

CLM is already being used within the distributed learning arena, enabling colleges and training providers to effectively deliver and track vocational training. The saving in terms of time and paperwork has been extremely significant and CLM is easily and effectively keeping abreast of student progress and attendance.

CLM software was recently featured in an article published by the Guardian. Read the article here.
