BTEC Specialist and Short Course Qualifications are changing

Update on the BTEC Specialist and Short Course Qualifications

BTEC Specialist and Short Course Qualifications are being reviewed and updated in line with the new QCF specification. They are to be split and renamed ‘Specialist Qualifications’ (Entry to Level 3) and ‘Professional Qualifications’ (Levels 4 to 7).

So far, we have decided which of our suite of BTEC Specialist Qualifications to redevelop and submit for the approval of the relevant Sector Skills Councils (SSCs) and QCF accreditation, in time for delivery from September 2010. A list of the current BTEC Specialist Qualifications, including those to be redeveloped, can be found in our accreditation spreadsheet. Please note that the titles in this list are subject to change.

Certain qualifications are not being redeveloped, due either to changing SSC priorities or lack of demand. We will inform any centres currently offering qualifications which are to be withdrawn.

Please note that there are varying accreditation end dates for the BTEC specialist qualifications; more details can be found on our accreditation spreadsheet. We will also keep you informed of ongoing changes and accreditation updates via regular announcements on these pages. Revised specifications will follow over the next few months.
