Professor Cathy Nutbrown was commissioned by the government to lead an independent review to consider how best to strengthen qualifications and career pathways in the foundation years.
Professor Nutbrown's final report was published on 19 June 2012 and recommended Level 3 qualifications provide a thorough understanding of child development (from birth to seven years), play, diversity, working in partnership with parents and observations, with placements in at least three settings.
The level 3 BTEC National Certificate and National Diploma in Children’s Play, Learning and Development are the only current qualifications that cover the key content areas recommended by the final Nutbrown Report for Level 3 early years qualifications.
You can view the final report from the Nutbrown Review on the DfE website. Further details of how the BTEC National Certificate and National Diploma in Children’s Play, Learning and Development address the key recommendations of the report will be available on the website next week.
