BTEC Specialist Qualifications | Door Supervision (L2)

Door supervisors in the UK need to hold a licence. Before applying for a licence, they need to have achieved a relevant qualification recognised by the Security Industry Authority (SIA). Edexcel offers licence-to-practice qualifications for door supervisors that will allow them to apply for a licence. (Full details of other requirements necessary to qualify for a licence can be found on the SIA website.) The specifications can be accessed below. People intending to work in England, Wales or Northern Ireland should take the BTEC Level 2 Award in Door Supervision (QCF), while those intending to work in Scotland should take the BTEC Award in Door Supervision (Scotland).

The BTEC Level 2 Award for Upskilling Door Supervisors has been accredited onto the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) for first teaching from August 2012. The BTEC Award for Upskilling Door Supervisors (Scotland) has been accredited for first teaching from December 2012.

These qualifications have been designed for door supervisors who achieved a door supervision licence before the current door supervision qualifications became available - the SIA has announced that from February 2013, before these door supervisors can renew their licences, they will need to have completed a 'top-up' qualification. These BTECs fulfil these requirements. The final published specifications can be accessed below.

A sample assignment brief for Unit 1 of the BTEC Level 2 Award for Upskilling Door Supervisors (QCF) can be accessed below.

Guidance to centres for the paper based security tests can be found at http://www.edexcel.com/quals/tests/sia/Pages/key.aspx.
