As the new DCSF framework develops, BTECs will continue to play a vital role.
BTEC and the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF)
All Level 2 BTEC Firsts and Level 3 BTEC Nationals have been QCF accredited, ready for teaching from September 2010.
Our new BTEC portfolio provides the widest 14-19 vocational provision of any awarding body, and offers learners the opportunity to follow a programme that meets their needs and preferences, providing them with the skills they need to progress to further learning and work.
Fully accredited stand-alone qualifications
The new BTEC Level 2 First and Level 3 National qualifications are now QCF accredited in their own right as stand-alone qualifications. The Joint Advisory Committee for Qualifications Approval (JACQA) is committed to keeping the best and most popular existing qualifications in the new system. With the huge and increasing take-up of BTEC courses, this is great news for BTEC centres.
Optimum choice and flexibility for the new Diploma with BTEC
Many of the revised BTEC Firsts and Nationals have been submitted for accreditation as Additional and Specialist Learning (ASL) for the new Diploma. In addition to this, our new BTEC portfolio - available for first teaching from 1 September 2010 – includes more than 50 brand new BTEC qualifications specifically created and approved to provide high quality Specialist Learning for the Diploma.
Extensive provision for Foundation Learning
Over 80% of Entry and Level 1 BTECs are now QCF-accredited for use as the vocational elements within Foundation Learning.
Continued support for Apprenticeships
BTECs are highly respected by employers and will continue to be an integral part of the Apprenticeship framework, providing the Technical Certificate element.
Focusing on the needs of all learners
We are working closely with the DCSF to help ensure that the 14-19 offer continues to reflect the full range of learners’ needs and provides the choice and flexibility that underpin the new 14-19 strategy.
