Quality Review and Development

Develop quality, deliver success, raise attainment

What is Quality Review & Development?

  • Quality Review & Development is an annual visit to check implementation against quality objectives and measures
  • It covers all BTECs, up to Level 3, and stand-alone NVQs/SVQs at all levels
  • It provides an overview of your centre’s strengths and weaknesses
  • It checks that there are suitable processes and that they are being used for all programmes
  • It provides an action plan for improvement.

Why is Quality Review and Development important?

  • To drive quality – Centres that ensure all programmes follow best practice can demonstrate quality both to Edexcel and to the regulators, and ensure that programmes are successful and learners fulfil their potential.

  • To provide support and development – Centres get support from Edexcel through a key expert who can relate requirements to the needs of your centre, enabling best practice to be shared across all programmes.

  • To provide a report against the quality objectives, giving recommendations for action and confirmation that internal verification is driving the quality of assessment.

Who is involved?

  • In your centre: your Quality Nominee for Edexcel vocational programmes. The annual visit will also involve Programme Leaders, Lead Internal Verifiers and delivery staff, as appropriate.

  • From Edexcel: the Centre Quality Reviewer. We will aim to provide you with a reviewer to work with you for three to four years and visit you every year to undertake the review and provide advice and support.

When does it happen?

  • Once every year, through a visit at a time to suit your centre. This should take place between October and April. If you are a new centre or running new programmes, you can arrange a visit early in the window to check that you are doing everything you need to do.

How does it work?

If you are a Quality Nominee:

  • Make sure your details are correct on Edexcel Online. Look out for details of network meetings and online support activities for Quality Nominees

  • You will receive email notification from Edexcel giving you the name of the allocated reviewer – normally during October

  • The Centre Quality Reviewer will contact you to arrange a visit

  • Use your previous reports as a starting point for an action plan.

If you are a Programme Leader or Lead Internal Verifier:

  • Make sure you know who your Quality Nominee is, and that you are receiving updates

  • Make sure your assessment and verification records are accurate and up to date.
