What is registration?
- Registration is the process that enters a learner for a particular BTEC programme with Edexcel.
Why is it important?
- All BTEC learners must be registered in order to claim certificates successfully.
- Registering learners alerts Edexcel to the existence of a cohort and kick-starts the quality assurance process, including allocation of a Standards Verifier.

How does it work?
- You can register learners directly via Edexcel Online.
- You can also upload learner data from management information systems via tools such as EDL.
- Fees are payable at the point of registration. They differ according to the size and level of a programme.
- Additional late registration fees are applicable if the registration deadlines are not met.
When is it done?
- For programmes following the standard academic year (that is, September to June), registration deadlines are as follows:
- Entry Level to Level 3 - 1 November
- Higher Nationals and FAD - 15 November
- Higher Education Licence centres - 15 December.
- For roll-on, roll-off short courses or programmes not following the standard academic year, registration must be within one month of starting the programme.
- Registrations last for five years, or until certificates are claimed.
- Learners can be transferred, withdrawn or reinstated easily via Edexcel Online.
Who is responsible?
- The Exams Officer in your centre will have full administration access to Edexcel Online and will be responsible for registering learners.
- Programme Managers should ensure that registration lists are accurate.
- There should be an agreed registration procedure for all BTEC programmes in the centre.
- The Quality Nominee should monitor the procedure to ensure that registrations are accurate and up to date.
