Here you will find Pearson regulatory policies and guidance for centres, learners and employees on our qualifications and any accompanying procedures. Our regulatory policies are integral to our approach and articulate in a consistent way how we meet our internal and regulatory requirements. They are reviewed annually to ensure that they remain fit for purpose.

This document addresses the duty upon awarding bodies to make reasonable adjustments and avoid unfavourable treatment towards disabled candidates.
expand Age of learners: A guide for centres to the fair recruitment of learners onto qualifications

This guidance is about the fair and equal recruitment of learners onto all Pearson qualifications administered by Pearson Education, the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) and other national frameworks in Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland. Qualifications that are not in scope are those which are restricted for legal reasons, such as serving alcohol or using firearms. There may be other restrictions, such as funding.

This document replaces the previous policy 'Age of learners on a BTEC programme' (2009).

This guidance applies to all Pearson vocational qualifications including BTEC, NVQ, SVQ, Key Skills, Adult Literacy and Adult Numeracy ESOL and Self Regulated Framework qualifications.
 
For further information on malpractice in GCSE, GCE, Project, Principal Learning and vocational qualifications, please refer to the 
JCQ document Suspected Malpractice in Examinations and Assessments – Policies and Procedures. Although the JCQ document covers vocational qualifications, this guidance document has been written to help Pearson centres who deliver vocational qualifications develop their own Malpractice Policy and Procedures, which is a requirement of approval.

expand Centres Operating Across International Borders to Offer BTEC and Other Pearson Vocational Qualifications

This policy applies to all approved UK centres based in England, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland that are seeking to extend delivery of vocational qualifications across international borders to Eire, the EU and any other region of the world. It applies to vocational qualifications awarded by Edexcel, including BTEC qualifications, at all levels and in all sectors.

This policy is about ‘Collaborative Agreements for the Delivery of Vocational Qualifications by Third Parties’. It replaces the previous policy 'Collaborative Agreements for the Delivery of BTEC and Other Vocational Qualifications, June 2011'. The policy covers situations where a BTEC approved centre (the Lead Centre) works collaboratively with other organisation(s) that may or may not be approved BTEC centre(s).

Ofqual’s General Condition A4 requires all awarding organisations to have a Conflict of Interest Policy. This policy provides guidance to relevant individuals, including our centres, on how we deal with possible conflicts of interest that may arise as a result of Pearson Education Limited’s role as an awarding organisation.

This is the QCF Credit Accumulation and Transfer policy, which we are required to have by regulation. The policy is about our arrangements for credit accumulation and transfer of QCF credit. It applies to all Edexcel and/or BTEC qualifications including those on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) and other national frameworks in Wales and Northern Ireland.

This is the SCQF Credit Accumulation and Transfer policy, which we are required to have by regulation. The policy is about our arrangements for credit accumulation and transfer of SCQF credit. It applies to all qualifications and units including those on the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework.

Distance Assessment policy outlines the minimum requirements that Pearson expects must be met by approved centres when assessing Pearson Education Limited qualifications through distance means. It applies to the assessment of learners' work that leads to partial or full completion of Pearson Education Limited qualifications accredited within the Qualifications and Credit Framework and the National Qualifications Framework; BTEC qualifications; National Vocational Qualifications; Functional Skills; Pearson's Self-Regulated Framework qualifications and other qualifications; and that are variously assessed through distance means.

Distance Learning policy outlines the minimum requirements that Pearson expects must be met by centres when delivering Pearson Education Limited qualifications through distance learning. Centres must ensure that when using distance learning, the method of delivery meets in full any particular, specified requirements for the delivery and assessment of the qualifications and units being delivered. This policy applies to the delivery of programmes of education, learning or training that lead to partial or full completion of Pearson Education Limited qualifications accredited within the Qualifications and Credit Framework, and in the National Qualifications Framework; BTEC qualifications; National Vocational Qualifications; Pearson's Self Regulated Qualifications framework; General Certificate of Education and General Certificate of Secondary Education qualifications; Functional Skills and other qualifications that are variously delivered, supported and assessed through means which generally do not require the learner to physically attend classes or sessions at given locations and times.

Businesses need to classify and control documents for legal and commercial reasons and as part of good governance. Classifying documents enables Pearson to manage risk by alerting staff to the nature of documents within the business and how such documents should be dealt with.

The Edexcel Assured policy applies to organisations that deliver their own education and/or training programmes and want to obtain Edexcel endorsement of their quality processes. The policy gives information on how the quality processes that underpin the administration will be reviewed and appraised. Edexcel Assured status will be awarded to those organisations that are able to evidence high quality control.

This policy provides guidance on Enquiries and Appeals about Pearson Vocational Qualifications and replaces the previous version dated May 2011. It applies to all Pearson and Edexcel vocational qualifications including BTEC qualifications, National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs), Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs) and Self-Regulated Framework qualifications.

There is an acknowledged risk when examiners who write question papers are involved in associated activities such as training and writing resources. Where these roles are carried out by the same person the security of exam papers can be compromised.
 
This policy has been put in place to increase public confidence in the integrity and security of our exam papers.

expand National Vocational Qualifications Delivered Overseas Policy

This policy provides guidance on the delivery of National Vocational Qualifications and competence qualifications overseas. This policy applies to Pearson accredited National Vocational Qualifications and to competence qualifications accredited within the Qualifications and Credit Framework being delivered outside the territories of England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Pearson accredited Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs) are excluded from being delivered outside the territories of the United Kingdom and are outside the scope of this policy.

Pearson Education Limited (Pearson) has an international reputation as a successful awarding organisation operating in the highly regulated field of qualifications.
 
Because Pearson endorses resources that are appropriate to support teaching and learning in relation to its Edexcel and BTEC branded qualifications, it's essential that publishers have timely access to information about the new qualifications Pearson approves for development.

Edexcel aims to facilitate open access to vocational qualifications for learners who are eligible for reasonable adjustment and/or special consideration in assessments, without compromising the assessment of the skills, knowledge, understanding or competence being measured.

This document is the Assessment Associate version of the Safeguarding Children Policy. It's of interest to Edexcel representatives (Assessment Associates), centre staff, parents and students.
 
This policy sets out the specific principles required for the safeguarding and protection of children and vulnerable adults. It sets a benchmark for the minimum standards that must be met and also provides guidance as to what to do and how to behave in order to minimise the risks when coming into contact with children and vulnerable adults, whether directly or indirectly.

The Safeguarding Children policy is aimed at Edexcel staff who come into contact with children and vulnerable adults, whether directly or indirectly. It sets a benchmark for the minimum standards that must be met and also provides guidance to staff so that they know what to do and how to behave in order to minimise the risks.

This guidance applies to all Pearson vocational qualifications including BTEC, NVQ, SVQ, Key Skills, Adult Literacy and Adult Numeracy, ESOL and Self-Regulated Framework qualifications.

It has been drawn up in accordance with Joint Council agreements dealing with malpractice and breaches of security.
