June 2011 Timetables

Please note that there have been some key changes to the way in which the June examination timetables have been set, which also affects the timing of the associated results.

The aim of these changes is to make the process more transparent and ensure that there is greater consistency in the arrangements. The more significant points are summarised below, however full details may be found in the JCQ document Standing Agreement Number 8, which can be found on their website at www.jcq.org.uk.

  • It is proposed that the tradition of scheduling the exams and the release of results on the basis of bank holidays should cease. This should ensure that the results will never be scheduled for release too close to the autumn term.
  • In future, the June timetable will commence on the 2nd Monday in May, and run for 7 weeks (including the Spring Half Term). This helps avoid the need for the timetable to run into July. In 2011 the timetable will actually commence on Tuesday 10 May due to a public holiday on 9 May in the Channel Islands.
  • The GCE results will be available for release to candidates 7 weeks after the last Thursday in the timetable.
  • The GCSE results will be available for release to candidates one week after those for GCE. This will avoid the close proximity with the autumn term that has occasionally occurred in the past (e.g. 2009 and 2010)

Centres should actively participate in the consultation process by feeding their views back to the JCQ Office, e-mail centresupport@jcq.org.uk.
