ESOL and the UK Border Agency

Edexcel’s ESOL Skills for Life qualifications are accredited by The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation, Ofqual, and meet the UK Border Agency's (UKBA) language requirements for UK Citizenship and Indefinite Leave to Remain applications.

The UKBA requires that the qualification must have been studied at an 'accredited college'. By this, it means either:

• a publicly funded college which is subject to inspection by Ofsted or its devolved equivalents

- or:

• a private college which is accredited by Accreditation UK, the British Accreditation Council (BAC), the Accreditation Body for Language Services (ABLS) or the Accreditation Service for International Colleges (ASIC)

Please be aware that having Edexcel approval to offer ESOL qualifications does not in itself mean that the centre is a UKBA-accredited college.
Some Edexcel centres offer ESOL to learners for purposes other than to satisfy the UKBA language requirements, so they do not need UKBA accreditation. The UKBA advises you to check with the centre to satisfy yourself that the centre is an accredited college.

For further information, please visit the UKBA website.
