What is OSCA?
OSCA (Online Support for Centre Assessors) is the Edexcel system that provides access to examples of marked candidate work and facilitates accreditation. It allows centres to practise marking, develop understanding and demonstrate their ability to assess accurately. Successful participation in OSCA activities enables Programme Leaders/Department Heads to become accredited.
(The ‘Programme Leader’ is defined as the individual with overall responsibility for the delivery of the portfolio assessment for a unit or set of units.)
Which qualifications offer OSCA?
Accreditation is currently available for DiDA and GCEs in Applied Subjects.
In addition, for the new GCSEs reference materials are provided for centres to practise marking and develop an understanding of standards and assessment.
What’s new on OSCA in 2009-10?
If you have been an OSCA user in the past you will notice some changes from 2009-10 onwards.
The appearance of OSCA has altered as we have moved to an improved and updated system. Your existing registrations, where applicable, are accessible on the new system. To access the new OSCA screens, select the 'OSCA' tab on Edexcel Online, which will bring you to the OSCA online system.
Applied GCE accreditation is now available at unit level, rather than programme (AS or A2) level. If you have exisiting accreditation at programme level this will be converted to unit level accreditation for the remainder of your accreditation period. New users, those not yet accredited at programme level, and those users whose accreditation has expired will now have to gain accreditation at unit level. You can find more information on the Applied GCE OSCA page.
OSCA now provides additional exemplar materials for controlled assessment units in the new GCSE. Additional materials will be added periodically to support programme teams’ understanding of standards and assessment.
