Onscreen tests for GCSE

You are here: Skip Navigation LinksEdexcel > I want to ...

We currently offer onscreen testing for GCSE Applied French and are running pilots for GCSE Maths.

Onscreen GCSEs are conducted with the same level of security and in a very similar way to paper-based GCSEs. Students will be required to sit their onscreen exams at the same time as the paper-based equivalents are being sat. The same standards for invigilation apply, and there are regulations and guidelines relating specifically to onscreen GCSEs to which centres must adhere. Students will receive their results for onscreen GCSEs at the same time and in the same way as they receive results for their paper-based exams. In this way, onscreen GCSEs maintain the integrity of traditional GCSE examinations while providing all the benefits of onscreen testing.

Onscreen GCSE Applied French offers many interactive features designed to increase the accessibility of the exam, and so raise achievement. For the listening exam, students use earphones to listen to audio clips attached to the test. This enables individual students to stop and start the audio and replay as they find necessary. Other features include ‘drag and drop’ responses - in which candidates ‘drag’ images or text into correct positions as a form of response to a question - and clear and engaging visual displays.

You can try out these features in a practice test for onscreen GCSE Applied French here.

Onscreen GCSE Maths provides a clear and accessible multiple-choice test for the non-calculator stage in Unit 2 of the modular Maths GCSE specification (2381) for both Foundation and Higher tiers. The onscreen format of the test helps many students to feel more comfortable in the exam and so perform at their best. Mocks and practice tests are provided to help familiarise students with onscreen GCSE Maths before they take their final exam.
