Functional skills are qualifications across English, mathematics and ICT. They provide learners with the necessary levels of literacy, numeracy and information and communication technology skills needed to function in today’s society and at work.
 
They are stand-alone qualifications in their own right; however, they are taught within GCSEs, and are a component of the 14-19 Diploma and part of the Foundation Learning suite of qualifications.
 
They are offered at all levels, from Entry Level 1 through to Level 2, with the choice of paper-based or onscreen assessment at Levels 1 and 2.
