A2C Data Exchange Project The A2C Data Exchange Project is a two-stage project to change the way awarding bodies and centres share data. The goal is to achieve significant improvement to the way operational data is shared between awarding bodies and all schools, colleges and training providers using their Management Information Systems (MIS). The project is led by the JCQ, of which Edexcel is a member.
|
Benefits
The aim is to use one data messaging standard for all qualifications, GQ, VQ and on-demand qualifications, across all JCQ awarding bodies. This would replace the JCQ EDI formats and Edexcel’s EDIFACT format. The standard is designed to be open to allow other non-JCQ awarding bodies use it.
There are improvements to change the way data is transferred and provide enriched information from awarding bodies to customers. Awarding body extranets, such as Edexcel Online, will continue but some of the additional functionality will be available through your MIS.
Who is involved?
The JCQ is leading the project and is liaising with exams officers and MIS suppliers to develop the new transport and data standard and messages.
Timeline
Between September 2011 and August 2012, the new transport service (migration tool) will be rolled out to centres replacing the current VAN providers. Support for this will be provided by AVCO who are producing the service.
Between September 2012 and December 2014, MIS providers will develop their software to support the new messages. Your MIS provider will contact you about this development.
Further information
Further detailed information is available on the new A2C website, http://a2c.jcq.org.uk/. It provides information for exams offices, teachers, MIS managers and MIS suppliers. Centres will receive regular updates from the JCQ on the project.
