Purpose of the Role:
Be responsible for:
1. Driving standards through ensuring the consistent application of unit requirements across all programmes and levels within the Principal Subject Area (PSA)
2. Consistent exemplification and interpretation of standards to ensure effective assessment through a wide range of activities, including: authoritative advice; exemplar materials; training and guidance.
Key Accountabilities:
For a defined PSA, the Principal Standards Verifier will:
- Direct the sampling of assessment and internal verification decisions across the range of programmes that comprise the PSA in order to affirm that national standards are maintained
- Have overall subject specific responsibility for assessment advice and standards interpretation across all qualifications at all levels
- Identify and escalate issues of adverse standards interpretation
- Provide authoritative advice for the range of qualifications
- Act as a principal point of contact with Edexcel for the PSA
- Manage and monitor the Senior Standards Verifier(s)
- Define the format and agree the content of training for the sectors
- Sign off subject specific content for centre or Subject Verifiers (SV) training
- Oversee the delivery of training and standardisation of SVs
- Monitor the production and operation of standardisation materials for centre assessors, internal verifiers and lead internal verifiers as requested
- Sign off all standardisation materials for centre assessors, internal verifiers and lead internal verifiers
- Produce an overall end of year centre report within Edexcel defined criteria
- Report back to Edexcel within agreed service-level agreements
- Contribute to any sector specific regulatory requirements as required
- Represent BTEC Assessment or Edexcel as required
- Undertake any other duties appropriate to the work of BTEC Assessment in relation to this role.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Previous Work Experience:
|
- Substantial recent experience in verification of BTECs within the sector
- Have worked in a supervisory or managerial capacity
- Substantial experience in delivering and assessing vocational qualifications with demonstrable experience of a wide range of assessment methodologies
- Multi-level experience across a range of qualifications within the sector
- Have demonstrable evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) in the field of assessment and delivery of vocational qualifications

- Experience across all levels (Entry to Level 7) of BTEC programmes
- Experience of delivering or participating in online training and standardisation
|
Skills and knowledge
|
- A clear understanding of the educational landscape and regulatory requirements for qualifications within the Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF)
- A detailed knowledge of assessment validity and reliability
- Detailed knowledge of various QA processes and strategies that underpin assessment and delivery
- Excellent communication, written, verbal, IT and interpersonal skills
- Team leading skills
- Ability to understand the implications of decisions taken on Edexcel’s behalf and not to operate outside the sphere of responsibility defined within this job description

This role cannot be undertaken as an additional role by any associate contracted as a Principal Quality Reviewer or Centre Quality Reviewer.
Requirements:
Any associate undertaking this role must:
- Have personal IT equipment capable of running Edexcel required software
- Have a suitable internet connection
- Have a personal and secure email account
- Have a postal address in the United Kingdom or Republic of Ireland
- Declare any conflicts of interest that could impact on the role
- Availability of 10 to 30 days, dependent upon the requirements and workload for the sector, in any given year
- Abide by the terms of conditions as stated in the contract for work
Fees:
A Principal Standards Verifier will receive £235 per day, based on a contract for a set number of days.
