Visiting Examiner 

Summary
A Visiting Examiner is responsible for marking candidates’ performance by visiting centres (schools), ensuring the overall standards are maintained.

Purpose
Visits centres to mark forms of examination work, or to conduct and mark oral examinations, or to be present at practical examinations where the activity of candidates has to be observed as part of the marking procedure.

Responsibilities

  • To mark the performance of candidates in accordance with the published marking criteria and procedures by visiting centres (schools), ensuring the overall standards are maintained.
  • To undertake an agreed allocation of local centres.
  • To submit written reports to the Principal Examiner.

Experience/qualifications needed

  • You will have a degree or equivalent
  • You will be a qualified or qualifying teacher
  • You will have teaching or assessment experience in the relevant subject and level.

Competencies required

  • You will have a high level of subject knowledge in order to apply the mark scheme
  • You will have the ability to work well under pressure
  • You will have the ability to meet deadlines.

Additional information

  • The examination period is between May and July
  • With an average allocation, your fee would be £700 - £1000
  • A fee for attending standardisation will also be paid when you have submitted your  reports to Edexcel.
