Support services explained

Support for examinations officers and quality nominees

Exams officers and quality nominees play a vital role in making sure that the assessment process runs smoothly and students get their results on time. We provide a number of services designed to support exams officers in their roles.

Information Manual

Each year we produce an Information Manual that's sent to all centres around the start of the academic year in both booklet and CD format. We also produce a different version of the Information Manual for international centres, containing details of our International GCSE specifications. Both Information Manuals are available on the website:

The Information Manual contains details of our administrative procedures and essential information such as contacts and key dates, and is intended as a reference tool to assist exams officers and other administrators. The Key Dates section of the Manual is replicated in the Key Dates Calendar which is sent to all centres along with the Information Manual.

Edexcel Online

Edexcel Online is an invaluable service for exams officers and administrators. It provides support at every stage of the qualification cycle, from approval through to registration and entry, reporting of achievement and results and post-results services.

Edexcel Online also gives access to services for teaching staff, including Online Support for Centre Assessors (OSCA), online booking for training events and Edexcel publications ordering. In addition, your Edexcel Online username and password will give you access to ResultsPlus.

If you're new to Edexcel Online, or have any queries, you can call our online support team on 0844 576 0024 (+44 1204 770 696 from outside the UK) - or why not try our online customer enquiry service, Ask Edexcel, at www.edexcel.com/askedexcel?

Customer services

If you have any questions about the administration of Edexcel qualifications or training, or you need any other support, we have an Account Specialist dedicated to your centre who will resolve all your exams officer enquiries.

You can contact your Account Specialist directly by calling 0844 463 2535 and selecting option 2, or you can email serviceoperations@pearson.com.

We aim to resolve as many enquiries as we can first time. This means that if you call us we’ll answer your question during the call, and if you contact us online the first response you receive from us will provide a comprehensive answer. Where this isn’t possible, we’ll keep you updated about how long it’s going to take us to answer your question. We’ll always respond to your initial enquiry within two working days.

Our Account Specialists often go out to visit centres, which is a great opportunity for you to receive customised training and voice any concerns you may have face to face.

Exams officer community

This is our online forum, dedicated specifically to examinations officers. It's a place to chat, share resources and ideas, ask questions and start your own discussions.

Exams officer training events

We offer a series of face-to-face and online training events designed to help you with the administration of our qualifications. These events are held twice a year, in autumn and spring.

Network events

Network events give you the chance to receive updates from awarding bodies and to network with other exams officers from local centres.

Further support for exams office staff

The Examinations Officers’ Association (EOA) offers a broad range of help and support to the exams office community, including a suite of BTEC qualifications designed specifically for the professional development and training of exams office staff. The qualifications are:

  • Level 2: Administering Exams (Introduction)
Ideally suited to new exams office personnel who are in a support role on a specific area within your centre.

  • Level 3: Administering Examinations (Advanced)
Ideally suited to exams office personnel who are going to/are already taking full responsibility for the management of exams in your centre.

  • Level 4: Examinations Management (Professional)
Ideally suited to experienced exams office personnel who may have been in post for some years and now need to upgrade their knowledge and experience on the exams system, and/or who want to have their role qualified and quantified to the Senior Leadership Team by doing a formal qualification for exams office personnel.

For more information, see the EOA website's CPD and training page.
