After listening to music teachers and Heads of Departments we will keep the new specification as similar as possible to our current, popular specification. The opportunity to use music technology will be incorporated into the specification.

It is likely that this will be a 3 unit qualification:

  • Music performance – controlled assessment
  • Composing – controlled assessment
  • Listening and appraising – external examination.

What is controlled assessment?

For the 2009 specification internal assessment will need to be carried out under controlled conditions. This change may alter the way that you deliver this part of the specification. We will, of course, provide you with assistance and guidance on how to manage controlled conditions within Music.

You can see the QCA controlled assessment regulations for Music here.
