After listening to astronomy teachers and Heads of Departments we have retained as many of the features of our current specification as possible. The specification will consist of two units. Unit 1 will include four topics – Earth, Moon and Sun; Planetary Systems; Stars; Galaxies and Cosmology.
Unit titles are:
- Unit 1 - Understanding the Universe – external assessment
- Unit 2 - Exploring the Universe – controlled assessment

What is controlled assessment?
For the 2009 specification internal assessment will need to be carried out under controlled conditions. This change may alter the way that you deliver this part of the specification. We will, of course, provide you with assistance and guidance on how to manage controlled conditions within astronomy.
