French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian and UrduThese four unit specifications offer minimal prescription and maximum choice. At Advanced level, advanced research of the societies and cultures of the relevant target-language countries is promoted and rewarded, while students have considerable freedom of choice when selecting literature, a topic or a film.
Arabic, Greek and Japanese
These two unit specifications offer minimal prescription and maximum choice. These specifications build on the best practice of the previous specifications and promote advanced research of the societies and cultures of the relevant target-language countries.
Chinese
Radically redesigned in a new three unit format, this specification offers discrete testing of all four language skills - listening, speaking, reading and writing at AS level. At Advanced level, advanced research of the societies and culture of Chinese speaking countries or communities is promoted and rewarded.
