Accredited BTEC First Awards specifications now available to download

We're delighted to announce that all nine of the first phase of our next generation BTEC First Awards for level 2 learners are now accredited for first teaching in September 2012.

This means you can now choose which BTEC qualifications to offer in September 2012. To support you in making the right choice for you and your learners, we've listed below which next generation BTEC qualifications are now accredited, and outlined the latest information on the DfE list for 2014 headline measures and the grace year for existing QCF qualifications.
BTEC First Awards – accredited materials now online!
You can download accredited specifications for the BTEC First Awards (120 GLH size) from our website in the following subjects:

Accredited Sample Assessment Materials (SAMs) and our new Delivery Guide for the BTEC First Awards will follow soon.

Centre approval update
Centres approved to deliver the existing QCF BTEC Level 2 First qualifications will be automatically approved to offer the newly accredited NQF BTEC Firsts in the same subjects. Now that we have received accreditation, we are finalising the processes to support this, and will be in touch shortly with your BTEC Quality Nominee to confirm the next steps.

The DfE List and 2014 headline measures – an update
During March 2012, the DfE will publish the final confirmed list of non-GCSE qualifications (including BTECs) which will count towards headline measures in the 2014 performance tables.

Once the DfE publishes the final List, we will be in contact again to confirm the List status for our new NQF BTEC First Awards, and what support is available for you and your centre.

QCF BTEC Level 2 First qualifications and the grace year
The existing QCF BTEC Level 2 First qualifications currently on the DfE list – including all eight subjects listed above – will remain on the list and will count towards headline measures in 2014 under the grace year (Extended Certificate (180 GLH) and Diploma (360 GLH) sizes only).

For centres wishing to transfer existing BTEC learners either to a larger size QCF qualification or to one of the new NQF Awards, we are finalising the procedures for doing this and will be in contact shortly with the next steps.
