Updates on Physical Intervention Skills for the Private Security Industry

This information applies to centres delivering this unit as:

  • unit 4 within the Edexcel BTEC Level 2 Award in Door Supervision (QCF)
  • unit 4 within the Edexcel BTEC Award in Door Supervision (Scotland)
  • a stand-alone unit
  • unit 1 within the Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Award in Delivering Physical Intervention Skills for the Private Security Industry (QCF).

Following discussions with the Security Industry Authority (SIA), we would like to clarify the requirements for the assessment of learning outcomes 1, 2 and 5.

From 1 February 2011, all assessment needs to be carried out under direct supervision by centre staff and without learners having access to any help or support (from other learners, staff, notes, handouts, course materials etc). Centres must be satisfied that any assessment evidence produced is that of the individual learner alone.

Centres are also reminded that they must retain all internally assessed work, assessments and internal verification records for the purposes of sampling by Edexcel’s standards verifiers.
