The present 2007 specification for the BTEC Nationals in Children's Care, Learning and Development contains guidance for the relevant placements for Unit 4 on page 56. We would like to clarify that in view of the present economic climate and decrease in the age range 0-1 year in nursery settings, with effect from 1 September 2011 centres can use a private family placement as a setting.

However, we would require centres to take the necessary precautions when placing learners in these settings e.g. a risk assessment and safeguarding requirements, and keep a record of these.
