Throughout July, teachers and students at the National Economics University Hanoi (NEU) and several other institutions have been celebrating the success of their BTEC National Diploma graduates. BTEC National Diploma qualifications are awarded by Edexcel, the UK’s largest awarding body.
At graduation ceremonies held in Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City, students received their BTEC Higher National Diploma in various fields including Business Management, Marketing, Human Resource Management and Electrical and Electronics.
Twenty-two-year-old Le Dang Ha Ninh, a 2008 NEU BTEC HND in Business and Marketing graduate who attended the NEU ceremony, commented about her studies: “It was a struggle but in the end it was well worth it”. After graduating with her BTEC HND, Ms Ha Ninh went on to complete a one year top-up Bachelor Degree programme in Marketing at Leeds Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom.
Sharing Le Dang Ha Ninh's success story, most of the BTEC HND graduates from NEU have progressed and successfully graduated with a UK top-up Bachelor Degree (Honours) programme at NEU in partnership with the University of Sunderland.
Nguyen Thi Binh Minhs, another BTEC HND graduate, is now working as an auditor with KPMG. When she first enrolled on the BTEC HND in Business Finance she could never have dreamt that four years later she will be working full time at the prestigious accounting firm.
Other graduates chose to complete their final year degree courses at universities in the United Kingdom.
Speaking about students from the NEU, Professor David Flemming, Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Sunderland, said: “They’ve done very well at our university in the UK. We are ever so proud of the high standards of achievement of these talented students.”
NEU is currently the biggest Edexcel BTEC centre in Vietnam and was given commendable recognition by Edexcel’s External Verifier during the last quality assurance visit. NEU achieved an overall Grade A for its delivery of the BTEC HND programme.
“NEU has overcome setbacks and demonstrated commitment, initiative and creativity in delivering BTEC HNDs. The effort has paid off in the end”, said Tony Mountain, Edexcel External Verifier Team Leader (South Asia).
Phan Thuy Chi, BTEC Manager at NEU, remarked, “It was enjoyable despite the initial difficulties but we gained more and more experience in BTEC delivery over the years. BTEC HNDs give students the opportunity to discover what they are capable of achieving in the workplace. They also give students a valuable insight into the world of work and the positive input they could make, but, most importantly, they help to build their confidence and other social skills which will help them to seek employment once they graduate.
"Students have now completed their courses. Some of them will be going on to complete the final year of a UK university degree, either here at NEU or in the UK. Some will go straight into the working world well prepared while others may choose to continue their education in other courses. We want to congratulate them for their achievement.”
The BTEC Higher National Diploma, which was first introduced in Vietnam at the NEU in 2005, has gained popularity in Vietnam. There are many other institutions of higher learning across the country offering Edexcel BTEC Higher National Diploma courses.
