So what is a ‘top-up’?
Top-ups’ give students who have completed a BTEC Higher National Diploma (HND) the opportunity to achieve a bachelor or undergraduate degree.
How long does it take?
Two main options are available. The choice of option will depend on the HND programme studied and the university’s requirements.
- Option 1:
The 2+1 route is the most common route for HND students to take. It requires students to complete two years of an HND qualification plus the final year of an undergraduate degree.
- Option 2:
The 2+2 route requires students to complete two years of an HND qualification plus the final two years of an undergraduate programme.
Why do a top-up degree?
HNDs in their own right are excellent qualifications to have. However, depending on your career aspirations, you may want to top up this qualification to a degree.
There are a number of benefits to topping up your BTEC HND qualifications. They include:
- Obtaining a higher education qualification
- Access to university support networks (career pathways, postgraduate opportunities, and so on)
- The ability to study within the UK or abroad
