Martin Cross MA, FCIS, FCIPD, MCMI, FRSA Chairman, Edexcel
Martin Cross has been Chairman of Edexcel since it joined the Pearson group in 2003. He is currently Chairman of the Police Promotion Examinations Board (2002 to present) and Vice-Chair of City College, Coventry (2000 to present), and has served as a member of a number of national bodies in the field of education and training.
An experienced practitioner in the fields of assessment and qualifications, Martin was formerly Chief Executive, RSA Examinations Board, and Director-General, OCR (1982-99). An Oxford graduate in PPE (Philosophy, Politics and Economics), he holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from the University of London. He spent fifteen years working in various colleges of further education in Oxford, Sussex and Kent, and then as Vice Principal of City and East London College, before joining RSA as its Examinations Director in 1982. |

Stephen Grix Principal and Chief Executive of Mid-Kent College of Higher & Further Education
Stephen Grix started his academic career as a lecturer in brickwork at Bexley College, Kent, in 1977, then progressed through teaching posts in Barking and Basingstoke colleges of technology. He then joined Barking & Dagenham local education authority as General Inspector of Post-14 Education in 1990, before moving to Barking College as Director of Curriculum Planning & Quality Assurance in 1993, where he was subsequently promoted to Deputy Principal. In 1996 he was appointed as Principal of Sir George Monoux Sixth Form College, Waltham Forest.
Stephen then joined the Office for Standards in Education (OFSTED) as Head of Post-Compulsory Education Division in May 2000, and in May 2002, he was appointed Corporate Director, Education for the London Borough of Tower Hamlets with responsibility for 100 schools, Early Years, Adult Education and the Youth Service. Stephen was subsequently appointed as Principal and Chief Executive of Mid Kent College on 7 March 2005.

John Fallon
Chief Executive International Education
John Fallon, aged 47, is responsible for the company's education businesses outside North America, and a member of the Pearson management committee. He joined Pearson in 1997 as director of communications and was appointed President of Pearson Inc., a role he combined with his communications responsibilities, in 2000. In 2003, he was appointed CEO of Pearson's educational publishing businesses for Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMA) and since then has gradually taken on a broader international education brief.
Prior to joining Pearson, John was director of corporate affairs at Powergen plc, where he was also a member of the company's executive committee. Earlier in his career, John held senior public policy and communications roles at Westminster and in UK local government. He graduated from Hull University in 1983 with a degree in economics, politics and sociology. John is married with two children. |

Sir David Melville Chair of Lifelong Learning UK
Sir David Melville is Chair of Lifelong Learning UK. From 2001 to 2007 he was Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kent. Previously he was Chief Executive of the Further Education Funding Council, and before that he was Vice-Chancellor of Middlesex University and Vice-Chair of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Principals (now UUK) and Chair of its Longer Term Strategy Committee. He began his career as a lecturer in physics at Southampton University and became Professor of Physics and Head of the School of Physics and Astronomy and subsequently Assistant Director and Vice-Rector of Lancashire Polytechnic. He was a member of a number of Research Council committees and panels, the Tomlinson Review of 14-19 Curriculum and Qualifications, the Foundation Degree Task Force, the Foster Review of the Future of Further Education Colleges and chaired the UK Universities Race Equality Consultation Project.
He has been a board member of the Higher Education Careers Services Unit and The Place and a member of the Council for Industry and Higher Education, the South-East Regional Assembly, the South East Science, Engineering and Technology Advisory Committee, the Kent Partnership Board and the Medway Renaissance Partnership, and Chair of the Higher Education Statistics Agency, the Learning and Skills Council in Kent and Medway, the University Vocational Awards Council and Higher Education South East and Vice-Chair of the Kent Public Service Board.
He is currently the Thames Gateway Skills Envoy and Chair of the Committee of Inquiry into the changing Learner Expeerience. He is a board member of Edexcel, the Institute of Financial Services, the Learning from Experience Trust and a member of the QCA Qualifications and Skills Advisory Group, the Thames Gateway Strategic Partnership, the Black Leadership Initiative Advisory Board and Vice-Chair of the Marlowe and Folkestone Academies. He is a Patron of Comprehensive Future and the 157 Group. He was Educated at Sheffield and Columbia Universities, has Honorary Degrees from Southampton, Derby, Middlesex, Kent and Sheffield Universities and was awarded a CBE in 2001 and appointed a Knight Bachelor in 2007 for services to further and higher education.

Margaret M Wilson is Headteacher of a highly successful secondary school in Essex, a qualified NPQH Tutor and Assessor, Facilitator for the British Council, Associate Headteacher of the SSAT, Chair of the Expert Panel for Mathematics and Computing, and non-executive Director of Edexcel Limited. She also works with the DfES as an External Consultant to Academies, following a period as an Executive Principal. She was a Research Fellow at Cambridge University for a brief period, exploring leadership training. |

Ed Vaizey MP
Ed Vaizey MP became a member of the Edexcel Board in 2006. Vaizey (38) trained and practised as a barrister. In 2005 he was elected the Member of Parliament for Wantage and Didcot. He stood down from his role as a trustee of the Trident Trust, the largest work experience body in the United Kingdom, when Trident became part of Edexcel in 2006. |
