A level reform: our response

Commenting on Ofqual’s announcement of changes to A levels, a Pearson spokesperson said:

"It is important that A levels are demanding and of high quality if they are to retain their place as one of the world’s most respected qualifications, so Pearson welcomes plans to refresh the A Level by establishing the principle of working more closely with higher education institutions on design and increasing synoptic testing.
"Yet at a time of great change across our exams system, we need to ensure no learners are left behind as we seek to raise standards, which is why we have suggested that the retention of a resit opportunity earlier in the year may be needed to support those seeking grades for university entry. We look forward to discussing the details of this change with Ofqual, in particular understanding the impact of this change on students who began two-year courses in September 2012.
"In addition, it is vital that reforms at A level are aligned to reforms earlier in the education system to support progression.”
